NICHE Celebrates National Librarians Day 2025 Honoring the Legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan

The Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE), in collaboration with the Noorul Islam Central Library, The Hindu Group – Tamil Nadu, and the NICHE Language and Literary Club, celebrated National Librarians Day 2025 on 12th August 2025 at the Audio Visual Hall, NICHE Campus. The event commemorated the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of the Indian Library Movement, whose pioneering work laid the foundation for modern library science in India.

The program began with a welcome address by Dr. G. Ramadas, Deputy Librarian, followed by the honoring of the Chief Guest by Dr. K. A. Janardhanan, Pro Vice-Chancellor(Administration), NICHE. In the Inaugural Address, Dr. P. Thirumalvalavan, Registrar, emphasized the evolving role of libraries in the digital era and the importance of cultivating strong reading habits.

Mr. S. Narayanan, Senior Manager, The Hindu, Madurai Region, delivered an inspiring Chief Guest Address on the significance of libraries and media in spreading knowledge, urging students to develop critical reading and information literacy skills. Felicitations were offered by Dr. David Raja Bose, Professor of English, commending the efforts in promoting literary culture at NICHE. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. S. Lawyed Steephen, Librarian, appreciating all contributors to the celebration.

National Librarians Day 2025 at NICHE served as a platform to reaffirm the importance of libraries as hubs of knowledge, creativity, and lifelong learning, while renewing the commitment to uphold Dr. Ranganathan’s vision for a vibrant reading culture.
