National Conference on Materials Science and Green Technology (NCMSGT – 2023)

The Department of Physics of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education has the proud privilege to host the CSIR sponsored National Conference on Materials Science and Green Technology (NCMSGT-23) during 9th and 10th March 2023. There were a total of 119 participants. We received a total of 90 abstracts from across the country. The inauguration of the conference NCMSGT-23 commenced with the invocation at 10.15 am in the AC auditorium. Our Pro Chancellor (Academics) Dr. R. Perumalsamy, Vice Chancellor, Dr. A.K. Kumaraguru, Registrar, Dr. P. Thirumalvalavan and the dignitaries on the dais lighted the lamp. Dr. B. Bindhu, Convenor NCMSGT-23 welcomed the delegates. Soon after the inaugural function, Dr. Renjith S, Scientist ‘B’ of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum, delivered the key note address on the topic “Ionic liquids: Green material for a sustainable future”. Dr. Reena VL, Research Officer in Central Council for Research in Siddha delivered a technical talk on “Characterization tools for nanomaterials”. Dr. Sharu B.K., Assistant Professor, NIT Calicut delivered a talk on “Turning CO2 into 3D-printed Concrete absorption using 3D”. The oral paper presentation was conducted in A.C. Auditorium of NICHE. Besides this a poster presentation has been organized in the corridor of the A.C. Auditorium. Interactions and discussions happened during the event. The paper presentation session and poster presentation were chaired by Dr.R.Ganapathi Raman, Assistant Professor, Saveetha Engineering College, Chennai. Dr. T. Suthan, Assistant Professor, Lekshmipuram College of Arts & Science, Neyyoor, Dr. Reena V L, Research Officer (Chemistry), Siddha Regional Research Institute Poojappura and Dr. V.N. Meena Devi, Organizing Secretary, NCMSGT-2023. Prizes and merit certificates were distributed to all the winners during the valedictory session. The participants provided positive feedback during the valedictory session. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. V.N. Meena Devi, Organizing Secretary, NCMSGT-2023.

National Science Day Celebration

The Department of Physics celebrated National Science Day on 28th February 2023 in association with IIC NICHE, at AC Auditorium of NICHE. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. A.K. Kumaraguru, the Registrar, Dr. P. Thirumalvalavan, Chief guest of the day Dr.S. Kannan, Prof. and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and Special guest Dr.Ananthakumar Ramadoss, Scientist (Jr), Central Institute of Petroleum Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Dr. A.Sajin Nargunam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), and Dr.M. Sankaranrayana Pillai, HOD, Dept. of Chemistry presided over the function. A total of 127 participants attended the function. Dr.B. Bindhu, HOD, Dept. of Physics, Dean, Science and Humanities, delivered the welcome address. Dr.S. Kannan, Prof. and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences delivered keynote address on the topic “Recent trends in science and technology” followed by the demonstration of experiment by the students. Various competitions Elocution, quiz and pencil drawing were conducted. Dr.Ananthakumar Ramadoss, Scientist (Jr), Central Institute of Petroleum Engineering and Technology (CIPET), delivered a talk on “Self Powered Systems” Prize distribution ceremony was held at 3.00 p.m. in the A.C. Auditorium. Prizes and merit Certificates were distributed to the winners of the competitions. Dr. S. Gopalakrishnan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Nanotechnology, delivered the vote of thanks. The meeting was concluded by sing national anthem.

WOMEN’s DAY CELEBRATION

The program began with the Tamil thai valthu by the students of second M.Sc. Physics. Dr. A.P. Majeed Khan, the Chancellor presided over the function. Dr. B. Bindhu, Professor & Head, Department of Physics and Convener of the programme, welcomed the gathering. Dr. M. Immaculate Mary, Dean, Faculty of Science and Humanities delievered a special address on the importance of the day. Dr. Ramani Kannan, Managing Director of Vivek Laboratories, Correspondent of Vivek Institute of Laboratory Medicine, Director of Vivek Psychological Counselling Centre and a social activist was the Chief Guest of the day. She delivered the Chief-Guest address and interacted with the gathering. Dr. G. Arockia Selva Saroja, Assoc. Professor & Head, Department of Allied Health Sciences felicitated the gathering. Dr. Ramani Kannan the external member, Dr. M. Immaculate Mary, Dean, Faculty of Science and Humanities, Dr. G. Arockia Selva Saroja, Assoc. Professor & Head, Department of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. J.R.Jeba, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Computer Applications were honoured for their dedicated service to NICHE. Our Chancellor Dr. A.P. Majeed Khan and the Vice-Chancellor Dr. A.K. Kumaraguru honoured all the NICHE Women achievers. Dr. P.B. Sarasija, Professor, Department of Mathematics and Dr. N. Shanthi, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering were honoured for their long and dedicated service at NICHE. Dr. Praseetha P.K., Professor & Head, Department of Nanotechnology was honoured for receiving a grant of Rs. 80 Lakhs under the FIST program of Department of Science and technology (DST) and also a grant of Rs.3,31,000 from the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST). Dr. H. Vennila, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was honoured for receiving a grant of Rs. 50000, under the scheme Dissemination of Innovative Technology (DIT) from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai. Dr. M.B. Jayalakshmi Asst. Prof., Department of Information Technology and Dr. Y. Jayasheela, Associate Professor, Department of Information Technology were honoured for receiving granted Patent. Non-Teaching staff members, Ms. R. Senthil Kumari, Junior Assistant and Ms. K. Latha, Lab Assistant, Department of Chemistry were honoured for their long and dedicated service at NICHE. Ms. Shamsiya Shams, Research Scholar, Department of Physics was honoured for receiving DST Inspire fellowship from Government of India. An inspiring song highlighting the importance and greatness of women in all spheres of life was sung by Ms. Devi Dhanusha and Ms. Jincy Manohar of II M.Sc. Physics. Cultural Activities by NICHE students were performed. Ms. Summaiya of S6 Forensic Science elaborated a speech on enlightment of women. Ms. Sree Renjini of S6 Perfusion Technology performed a solo song. A graceful dance by Ms.Rajimol and team of Allied Health and Science Department was performed. Ms. Ancilin and team of II M.Sc. Physics performed a group song. .Ms. Gopika UM of II M.Sc. Physics proposed the Vote of thanks.

WORKSHOP ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP, INNOVATION AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

An exclusive virtual session entitled ‘WORKSHOP ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP, INNOVATION AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT’ was jointly organized by the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) and the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) through Google Meet on 28th October 2021 at 10:00 am. Dr. B Bindhu, Professor and Head, Department of Physics and Convener of Internal Complaints Committee delivered the welcome address. Ms. Anjana VL of II M.Sc. Physics introduced the speaker of the event, Dr Rymala Mathew, Chief Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, School of Engineering, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore to the gathering. Dr. Rymala Mathew further went on to give a vivid outlook of innovative careers ,ideas and strategies of Entrepreneurship .She also gave lot of instructions in the field of innovative world and women empowerment .The speaker included in her presentation the successful women candidates who had implemented their own creative ideas. This crucial webinar was attended by 51 participants. Interaction with the participants took place during the workshop. Finally, Dr. Sindia TV, Internship activity coordinator expressed her gratitude for the valuable webinar. E- certificates were provided to all the participants.

The department of Physics co-ordinated the Two-Week (10 working days) ISTE Short Term Training Programme (STTP) on "Engineering Physics" from 08th to 18th December, 2015. This programme was conducted by IITB (Mumbai) under the National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Govt. of India. NICHE is the remote centre for organizing this workshop. The main focus of this programme was to work with Engineering Colleges in the country to enhance the teaching skills of faculty in Engineering and Science subjects.
