The awareness program was organized by the faculty of Management Studies to help their students to have access to information and awareness regarding the ever-rising problem of drug abuse. The session started with an opening speech by the HOD Dr Kinslin who introduced the Chief Speaker – Tmt.Asha Jebaher, the Sub Inspector of Police, Thuckalay Police Station. The chief guest was honored with a shawl by Dr Radhika and the session was handed over to the guest. The session was attended by 50 students and 13 staff members. It was a highly enlightening session as it drew attention to the ill-effects of drug usage. One of the most striking aspects of the speech was the fact that this problem affects a person’s life at the most crucial point of growth. The person’s education, health, and career are all put at risk. There is no hope for the future with a deadly addiction like drug abuse in one’s basket of today. There are many innocent students who do not realize the gravity of this addiction and begin using it for ‘fun’ or to be accepted as ‘cool’ within their circle of friends. Some fall under this trap of peer pressure and don’t really know how to say no. This program also highlighted some real life stories of students who suffered in pain due to drug abuse and some others who met a dreadful end due to the same. The young minds of the students get easily influenced and they don’t take the after-effects seriously. Awareness programs like these allow for an intervention to such careless actions. Better insight saves a person’s life and sometimes all it may take is a small piece of advice because they do not know better at a tender age like this. This insightful program was concluded with a pledge led by the Chief guest and a vote of thanks speech by Dr Shibin Tad from the faculty. The program ended at 1:20pm and everyone dispersed from the venue.
