Onam Festival Celebration 2024

Onam is a festival celebrated to show gratitude to beloved King Mahabali and people show their gratitude towards the land for giving a good harvest. This festival is celebrated in Kerala and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. People believing that King Mahabali could visit again, once every year, the lands and people he previously ruled and for the well-being of everyone. In this occasion, Kheer is prepared and served to people. We the department of aeronautical engineering on behalf of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education had celebrated Onam festival on12.9.2024. Head of the department of Aeronautical Engineering, Dr.B.Stanly Jones Retnam, had organized the function with full-fledged. The floor was embellished neatly with flowers with different coloursby Prof. A. AnuKuttan and students had decorated the floor with Rangoli. This marked theOnam brings peace, happiness, healthiness and prosperity in the life of the people. Eventually, the Onam in the form of Lunch with Kheer was served to all the members who had participated in this function.

Guest Lecture on Employability Skills & Challenges

The department of Aeronautical Engineering has conducted Guest Lecture program on Employability skills and Challenges on 10.9.2024. There were 8 staff members and 26 students actively participated in the program. The program was organized by Dr.B.Stanly Jones Retnam, Head of the Aeronautical Engineering. The Chief Guest for this program was Dr.D. Kinslin, Professor and Director of Faculty of Management Studies& and Industry Institute Collaboration, Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, engaged with the students on topic such as self-analysis, time management, self-confidence and essential skills required to secure employment in reputed industries. Additionally Dr. Kinslin conducted a psychology test to assess the students’s skills, providing valuable insights into the fundamental abilities needed for job readiness. This session proved highly beneficial in helping students understand the key competencies required for successful employment.

National Space Day 2024 Celebration

The National Space Day 2K24 was held at Hill-Top Auditorium, Noorul Islam Centre for higher Education on 23rd August 2024, which was organized by the department of Aeronautical, Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering in order to witness the development and success of Chandrayaan -3, by Indian Space Research Organization. There were 216 participants attending the program. The Vice chancellor of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, Dr. Tessy Thomas inaugurated the function by explaining about space day celebration. All the Directors, Deans, Heads including heads of the department of Aeronautical, Aerospace and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, members of the staff and students from various departments have participated the function. The chief guest of this event, Sri E. Sundaravathanam IPS, Superintendent of police, Kanyakumari District, has shared his challenges and experiences for having been an Aeronautical Engineer and the purpose of celebrating the space day. In connection with Space day, the department of Aerospace Engineering has conducted a vibrant and engaging NICHE Space Expo on 22-August-2024 at Hangar III, NICHE. The expo featured participation from several departments, each contributing unique and innovative exhibits. The Mechanical Engineering Department displayed advanced models of space rovers, solar panel bird detector (IOT) and wind mill working model. The Fire and Safety Department showcased the basic function and need of fire and safety suits and various symbols and also the basic applications of fire and safety tools. The Computer Science Department exhibited their work on artificial intelligence and machine learning applications in space exploration. The Aeronautical Engineering Department presented innovative designs for spacecraft and aerodynamic studies related to high-altitude flight. The host department, Aerospace Engineering, came forward with several ground breaking projects, including prototypes of next-generation spacecraft, satellite technologies, and propulsion systems. The 3D Printing Stall showcased the latest advancements in additive manufacturing, specifically tailored for space applications. In celebration of Space day, the department of Aeronautical Engineering has conducted National Seminar on 14th August 2024 and Hackathon – Ideathon 2K24 event on 19th August.2024, which comprising of series of events such as Paper presentation, Aero Modeling, Quiz and Paper Rocketry in order to showcase the skills of the students in the fields of drone engineering, alternate fuels and safety engineering. Each of these competitions was evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges. The third year students from Fire and Safety Engineering, Deon Dias (1122225002) and Ajith A R (1123325001) have won first prize. The third year students from Fire and Safety Engineering, Gowtham T and (1123325002) and Sandra Mathew (1123325003) have won second prize for paper presentation completion. The final year students from Aeronautical Engineering, ChavanRohan Ramesh (1121201007) and AmeenaFathima (1121201002) have won first and second prizes for Aero modeling competition respectively. The second year students from Fire and Safety Engineering, ShikhilSubash S (1123225010) has won first prize. The second year student from Aeronautical Engineering, S Harini (1123201004) has won second prize. The final year student from Aeronautical Engineering, ChavanRohan Ramesh (1121201007) has won third prize for Quiz. The third year B.Com student, AhamedManazir (1122630003) and Ramalingam (1122630011) won first and second prizes respectively for Paper rocketry completion. The department of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering has conducted series of competitions, Painting, Essay writings, and Elocution on 12th, 13th and 14th August 2024 regarding space day. Each of these competitions was evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges regarding space day. PrathanaLekshmi of Department of B.Sc. (1122634014), AnishDhar of Aerospace Engineering (1121202004), have won first and second prizes respectively for and Anjali Navaneeth (1123228004) and ChinmoyMaharana (1123228005) of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, both of them have won third prize for painting competition. Krishna S Ayyappan (1122208016) of Computer Science and Engineering and JincyBassilia (112204008) of Bio Medical Engineering, and Ashlin J Lal (1123201013) of Department of Aeronautical Engineering have won first, second and third prizes respectively for essay writing competition on topic “Chandrayaan- The struggle to Moon”.JincyBassilia (112204008) of Biomedical Engineering, Muzammil Ahmed Yasir A (1121228010) of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and Ashlin J Lal (1123201013) of Aeronautical Engineering have won first, second and third prizes respectively for elocution competition on “The Vocal Journey of Chandrayaan”. The winners of these competitions conducted by the department of aeronautical and aircraft maintenance engineering have been awarded cash prizes by chief guest on the space day.

IDEATHON 2K24

The department of Aeronautical along with the intuition’s Innovation council organized an Ideathon 2K24, the idea competition on 19.8.2024. The students from the 24 departments actively participated in the competition and presented their ideas in the fields of drone engineering, alternate fuels and safety engineering. The competition was organized by Dr.B.Stanly Jones Retnam, Head of the Aeronautical Engineering. The completion was judged by Dr.R.S.Rimal Isaac, AP/Nanotechnology and Dr.R.Dinesh, AP/ Mechanical Engineering. This was very useful for the students to show their skills in aero modeling.

Workshop on Health and Hygiene

The workshop on Health and Hygiene, “Management of Lifestyle Diseases by Ayurvedic Ahara Vihara” was held at Aero Smart Class Room, Noorul Islam Centre for higher Education on 13.8.2024, which was organized by the department of Aeronautical Engineering. The head of the department, Dr.B.Stanly Jones Retnam has organized the program. The workshop was led by Dr. Queen Ester, Dr. YonaldJoshuwa Samuel, and Mr.G.Venkatesh, focused on the role of Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle practices in managing lifestyle diseases. The sessions covered the importance of personalized dietary and lifestyle interventions to balance the diet and maintain overall health. This event is concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the practical insights and tips on incorporating Ayurvedic principles into daily life for better health and wellness.

International Seminar on Career Guidance on Aircraft Maintenance

International seminar was conducted on 29.7.2024 in Audio Visual Hall at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE) which was conducted by the department of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering. The students and staff members from the department of Aircraft Maintenance and Aeronautical Engineering had assembled together in the hall. Dr.Tessy Thomas, Vice Chancellor had welcomed Chief Guest, Mr. Fenix Amal, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Airbus, New Zealand from NICHE. The chief guest started sharing his knowledge and experiences towards job opportunities of aircraft maintenance in middle east and European countries, He explained about practical oriented courses, preparation, and rules and regualtions for writing AME DGCA modue examination and comparing the job opportunities on AME in India and New Zealand. Finally, Dr.P.Thirumalvalavan, Registrar thanked the chief guest, staff members and the students who participated in this program. This program is very useful for the students to gain the career opportunities towards aeronautics and aircraft maintenance engineering.

Professional Development Program on Yoga and Health Science

This Professional Development Program was conducted on 27.7.2024 in Aero Smart Class Room at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE). The students and staff members from the department of aeronautical and aerospace engineering and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering had assembled together in the hall. Dr. R.R. Neela Rajan, Assistant Professor had welcomed higher authorities including the key note speaker, Dr. V. Antony Vincent, Assistant Professor, from NICHE. The key note speaker started sharing his knowledge and experiences towards Yoga, which was originated in India, more than thousands years ago. He explained about the Yoga and how is related to health science, stating with about various types of Asanas and diseases. He explained step by step procedures of Asanas and made the staff members to do so. Finally, Dr. A.Anu Kuttan thanked the key note speaker and staff members who participated in this program. This program is very useful for the staff members to gain the practical experience on various asanas used and to improve the physical and mental stability.

Professional Development Program on Python Programming

Dr. S. NinishaNels, Assistant Professor from Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, Kanyakumari was a Keynote Speaker in this event. She has started his lecture from the basics of Python programming in detail. Then she detailed about the history, development, general applications towards designing of websites, software, Artificial Intelligent and Machine learning including aerospace applications such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Space and satellite technology and Aircraft design and optimization. This program is very useful for the staff members to enhance their skills and knowledge towards their field.

Guest Lecture on exploring software skill and Design Innovation for successful Career in the field of aeronautics, space & defence by SS Technologies

This Guest Lecture program was conducted on 7.3.2024 (AN). The students and staff members assembled together in Aero Smart class room and Mr. Dhanish Abdul Khader, Space System Engineer of SS Technologies from Bangalore, a chief guest of this event who explained various software courses and how STK (Systems Tool Kit) is very useful for the students to design and make physical based modeling payloads in a realistic mission context. Actually Clients of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) are organizations such as NASA, ESA, CNES, DLR, Boeing, JAXA, ISRO, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Airbus, The US DoD, and Civil Air Patrol. This program is very useful for the students to know STK software and which will help them to do simulate their project models using this software.

National Seminar on exploring BRAHMOS Aerospace, Tiruvananthapuram.

This Seminar program was conducted on 7.3.2024 in Audio Visual Hall at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE). The students and staff members from the department of aeronautical and aerospace engineering and placement officers had assembled together in the hall. Dr. A. Sajin Nargunam, the pro-vice chancellor (Academic) from NICHE, introduced a Chief guest, Mr. Sivakumar R, Dy. General Manager from BRAHMOS Aerospace at Tiruvananthapuram. The chief guest started sharing his knowledge and experiences towards Brahmos Aerospace Private Limited.He explained about the history of Brahmos Aerospace, missile production and surface treatment. Finally, Dr. B. Stanley Jones Retnam, the assistant placement officer thanked the chief guest and staff members and students who participated in this program. This program is very useful for the students to gain different types of missiles used and their purposes and missile production.

Dr.S.Ninisha Nels, Assistant Professor, Department of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, Kumaracoil was a speaker of this event. She also explained the secondary aim is to earn a profit and role of entrepreneur who helps in fulfilling the customer's demand in an innovative manner. This event was very useful for the students to know how to start the business and need of entrepreneurship in aeronautical engineering field.

Overview of the Event Pongal is a harvest festival at the end of harvest season in order to show gratitude to farmers, and nature. This festival is celebrated in South India. In this occasion, Kheer, mixture of rice and jaggery, is boiled over a pot and served to people. We the department of aeronautical engineering on behalf of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education had celebrated Pongal festival on 12.1.2024. Head of the department of Aeronautical Engineering, Dr.T.Annil Kumar had organized the function with full-fledged. The floor was embellished neatly and Prof. A. Anu Kuttan had decorated the floor with Rangoli. Prof.S.Aneesha, had made Pongal in a pot. When the rice was boiled over a pot, all members produced joyful noise. This marked the Pongal brings peace, happiness, healthiness and prosperity in the life of the people.

Mr. Santhosh Kumar from EMAX was the Chief Guest of this event. Mr. Santhosh Kumar has explained and visualized about Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and discussed various topics related to Artificial Intelligence such as Python programming and its applications, face interview, demo classes, companies used in Python and real time gaming process including windows calculator. This event was very useful for the students to know the important of artificial intelligence and various companies used in Python and distinction between existing programming versus Python programming.

International Seminar on spacecraft Autonomy

The International Seminar on Spacecraft Autonomy was held at Hill Top Auditorium, Noorul Islam Centre for higher Education on 20.4.2023, which was organized by the department of Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. Dr. Krishna Dev Kumar, P. Eng., Professor of Space Systems Engineering & Director of Artificial Intelligence for Aerospace Systems (AIAS) Laboratory and Department of Aerospace Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada, was the chief Guest of this event. He has started his Seminar from the history of spacecraft autonomy and levels of autonomy in space, types of autonomy and applications. He interacted with the students about the benefits of space craft autonomy, higher studies and job opportunities related to space craft autonomy. This was very useful for the students to know deeply about spacecraft autonomy and made them to know job opportunities related to aeronautics and astronautics.

Dr. Prince Raj Lawrence Raj, Assistant Professor, from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology was Alumni in this event. He has interacted with present aeronautical students about the job opportunities in various aeronautical industries and also discussed the topic of effect of atmospheric icing affect the aircraft landing. This program is very useful for the students to the consequences of atmospheric icing to the aircraft engines and also students gathered the knowledge about the career opportunities in various organizations.

This program is very useful for the students to gain the knowledge regarding atmospheric Icing and the consequences to the aircraft engines.

Guest Lecture on Future Trends in UAV

Mr. Jagadeesh Khanna and Mr.Karthikeyan from Vaayusatra were the Guest Lecturers in this event. Mr. Jagadeesh Khanna has started his lecture from the history of UAV and future trend and Mr. Karthikeyan has explained about applications of UAV. This event was very useful for the students to know various UAV available and their application in different fields. Also the students gathered the knowledge about the components of UAV and its control.

Industrial Visit

The students from Aeronautical engineering and Aerospace Engineering accompanied by four staff members, Mrs.W.K.Anitta, Dr.L.M.Karthikeyan, Dr.R.R.Neela Rajan. Dr.V.Antony Vincent have visited industries from 15.2.2023 to 18.2.2023 as four days industrial visit. They started to make a journey from NICHE campus on 14.2.2023 around 5PM. In the first day of industrial visit, they visited HAL Heritage centre & Aerospace museum on 15.2.2023 at Bangalore. This is the first India’s aerospace museum established in 2001. This was very useful for the students to gain detailed knowledge about various commercial and military type aircrafts. In the second day, they visited air-show on 16.2.2023 held at Bangalore. This would enhance the students to gather the information about advancements of aviation industry. In the third day, they visited Indian Space Telemetry & Tacking Command Network (ISTRAC) at Bangalore. ISTRAC is entrusted with the major responsibility to provide tracking support for all the satellite and launch vehicle mission of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization). The major objectives of the centre are: carrying out mission operations of all operational remote sensing and scientific satellites, providing Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TTC) services from launch vehicle lift-off till injection of satellite into orbit and to estimate its preliminary orbit in space and hardware and software developmental activities. From the ISTRAC visit, students know the importance, types and purpose of satellites and their launching. The final day, they visited Golden temple in Coorg. The Golden Temple complex is home to about 16000 refugees and 600 monks.

UAV Workshop

The students from Aeronautical engineering and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering were eagerly participated in the “UAV workshop” conducted on 27.1.2023. The expert Mr.R.Manoj has successfully explained about aerodynamics and basics of Unmanned aerial Vehicle. Then he explained about fabrication of UAV and has flown the UAV in the air for a particular range. This UAV can be used in agricultural field for spraying fertilizers and pesticides and also used for taking useful photographs by fixing camera on it. This workshop was very useful for the students to do project regarding UAV design and improving the talent with the flying machines. Also it is useful for training other college and school students to fabricate and fly UAV.

Mr. R.Manoj from RC Market city was Guest Lecturer in this event. He has started his lecture from the history of aircrafts and then elements of aircraft and their functions in detail. Then he detailed about various types of aircrafts and job opportunities available in connection with aeronautical engineering fields. This event was very useful for the students to know various job opportunities available related to aeronautical engineering field and to know how to apply and get jobs in the industries, organizations and firms. Also the students gathered the knowledge about the special qualities required to get jobs in reputed organizations, companies, firms, colleges and universities.

When the rice was boiled over a pot, all members produced joyful noise. This marked the Pongal brings peace, happiness, healthiness and prosperity in the life of the people.
