Marine Engineering course conducted in the University is approved by the AICTE, the Director General of Shipping, Govt. of India. This is a residential course and the students are provided with excellent library, laboratory/workshop, hostel and mess facilities. Discipline, communication skills, team work, healthy attitude for social living, etiquette etc. are naturally imparted as part of the programme. As more than 90 % of the world trade is transported by ships, shipping plays a major role in the world economy. This being an International Business with huge capital investment and environmental ramifications, the industry needs capable marine professionals to operate thousands of ships plying in the international waters. Therefore, the objective of the Marine Engineering Course provided in the University is to prepare and guide the students to become competent Marine Engineers whose demand is ever growing in India and abroad. It is highly a remunerative profession.
Department celebrated Maritime day and a lecture was delivered on history of “MARITIME” day by Captain S. Vijayan Pillai. Students were taken to Andaman in Ship, during their Voyage Students were trained in the various Machineries & Deck Equipments in the ship.
Ship-in-Campus : At a huge investment a Ship-in Campus approved by Director General of Shipping, Mumbai has been set up where the students can have the feel of real ship with typical Engine Room Machinery. Actual ship’s machinery like Main Engine, Electrical Generators, Boiler, Fresh Water Generator, Engine room simulator, Fuel oil Separators, Coolers/Heat Exchangers, Incinerator, Sewage Plant, Oily water separator, Air compressor, Steering machinery, etc. are installed in this facility. Students are given extensive exposure to the ship-in campus to have more hands on practical experience.
